Reading instead of eating? I’ll warn you right ahead: after reading this, you’ll be on your way to your favorite burger spot – trust me on this one! I’ve been there. 10 times. At least!

Let’s start with some background information before we come to the fun part and dive head-first into the delicious meaty wonderland that is going to await you at the end of the article. According to Wikipedia, a burger can be defined as follows:

hamburger (short: burger) is a sandwich consisting of one or more cooked patties of ground meat, usually beef, placed inside a sliced bread roll or bun. The patty may be pan fried, grilled, or flame broiled. Hamburgers are often served with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, bacon, or chiles; condiments such as ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, relish, or “special sauce”; and are frequently placed on sesame seed buns. A hamburger topped with cheese is called a cheeseburger.

Most of the following burgers and recipes contain the ingredients mentioned above. But a lot of them are quite unique, not only in the ingredients used, but also due to the condiments and special sauces. Each of them is therefore special in its own way!

If you’re still reading you’re either not hungry, really interested in all details about hamburgers or you already scrolled down and came back up to read the rest. Anyhow, I have some more background about how the term hamburger came to be.

The hamburger, a ground meat patty between two slices of bread, was first created in America in 1900 by Lous Lassen, a Danish immigrant owner of “Louis Lunch” in New Haven – at least according to Conneticut Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro. But of course there are more people who claim to have invented this legendary sandwich! Names are Charlie Nagreen, Frank and Charles Menches, Oscar Weber Bilby and Fletcher Davis. The legendary burger spot White Castle even brings in a contender from Germany: Otto Kuase.

Finally, I’d say that’s enough information for now… Go and feast on the following top 15 mouth-watering hamburger recipes and try to create one of these burgers at home.  You’ll be rewarded!
